Ikoon collective - www.ikoon.art.pl. Some mysterious little animal covers us with slime in the night. Sometimes we have the impression that something entangles our steps, that the trace of the diluted absurdity follows us. Sometimes the suspicion wakes up in ourselves that we all are victims of the mysterious joke, the suspicion that we weirdly move under this sky. We want to push away this thought from us. We cultivate the ground, build factories, eat bread and drink wine. However we feel quite uncomfortably in the depth of our soul and that feeling appears stubbornly, as a trail on the dirty window pane. Hideous philosophers would wish to clog our mouths. What we can not speak about, we should keep silent. Only art supports our reactions and wonders, what kind of game we participate in. It will not suffice to limit oneself to nonsensical statements that the destination of art is to change our thought habits (or, how one prefers, to drill a hole in a stomach). Instead of ones, others will come. Anyway a lot tells us to suspect that this loud password conceals comfort, that is exactly reluctance to change our habits. Two popular photographs. Yogi sitting in the position of the lotus. He has been keeping his palm squeezed for twenty years, and in the palm there is a stone which has already become rooted in the skin. Woman wearing a short skirt, close-fitting jacket and stiletto heels, jumps up clumsy (charming?), when suddenly steam gushes from under the engine. Anonymous yogi and Marylin Monroe from the antipodes of charm, success and fame enlighten us that the devotion and prosperity are equally uncomfortable. We confirm this fact (as an uncomfortable fact) quite reluctantly, because it turns out that ‘uncomfortably’ will find us always and everywhere. It will get as the pebble to the shoe, it will begin to pinch, to irritate and it will push the effort. It is art that undermines this effort and speaks, that more sooner or later, here or there, it will be more or less uncomfortably.
